Felipe Ortiz Patiño, son of the founder of the Valderrama Golf Club and a key figure in the organisation of the 1997 Ryder Cup and several world golf championships, has acquired the Arcos de la Frontera golf course with the aim of renovating it and turning it into one of Europe’s great courses. The development, promoted by Patiño Resorts S.A., is part of an integrated vision that combines the modernisation of the course, the promotion of an internationally renowned sports complex and the revival of tourism and residential development in the area.
At the presentation of the project, held in Arcos, Felipe Ortiz Patiño was accompanied by lawyer Ramón Dávila and local authorities, including the mayor and the councillor for tourism, to formalise the expansion of the course and the creation of an international sports complex. The initiative, which is already part of the Patiño Golf Resort project, proposes to transform Arcos Garden into a first-class resort, drawing on Valderrama’s track record and prestige and the experience of its management to raise quality, incorporate design improvements and optimise the management of complementary facilities.
In addition to the renovation of the golf course, the plan includes the upgrading of hotel and residential infrastructure, with development practically complete and the possibility of expanding the tourist offering with a century-old Andalusian farmhouse, restaurants and event areas. There are also plans to create a luxury beach club on nearby beaches and a horse riding area, as well as to exploit complementary infrastructure for tourism to turn the complex into an international sports tourism hub.
The initiative puts the Arcos area on the world map as a tourist and sports hub, supported by regional connectivity: proximity to Jerez de la Frontera with its international airport, access to Seville and Malaga, and the possibility of accessing Gibraltar. The project, under the name Patiño Golf Resort, in addition to emphasising the sporting potential, aims to sustainably reactivate urbanisation and promote long-term building planning that combines tourism, sport and residential development.
Internationally, the project is part of the strategy to position Arcos and Cádiz as leading destinations, reinforced by the notoriety of Jerez,. Cadiz province has been recently included by the New York Times among the 52 most attractive destinations in the world. And Jerez is the gastronomic capital of Spain in 2026.The region, with high-quality beaches such as Sanlúcar, Rota, Chipiona and Cádiz, and with the Sierra de Cádiz mountains and its natural parks just a stone’s throw away, is a privileged setting for leisure, cultural and sports tourism.
